Students are increasingly exposed to multiple or prolonged traumatic events, such as abuse, neglect, and domestic violence. Students are deeply impacted by trauma and by the events they witness in their daily lives. These experiences directly impact social-emotional development, behavior, and academic growth — and can present unique challenges for educators. In this seminar, participants will deepen their understanding of trauma’s roots, prevalence, and impact on students. They will explore the characteristics and associated behaviors of trauma-affected youth and develop proactive, positive strategies to connect with, support, and teach students who have endured complex trauma. Participants will develop strategies to support traumatized students and create a school-wide environment that promotes healing and success.
